Audio Visual Screen Extender Solutions
Video Extenders such as Wireless VGA for remote screens.
Venues such as shopping centers, social clubs, pokie/slot machine and sporting facilities often benefit from using vga extenders and remotely located media players to display AV content on Large LCD panels throughout the facility.
The concept behind the solution
The basic concept of the solution is that video and other signals such as Stereo Audio, USB and RS232 for Screen Control can be sent over long range extenders using either Cat5, Cat6/7, Fibre or with new technology it is now possible to utilise a wireless transmision (not related to computer wi-fi) or even TCP/IP signals over existing networks.
The Picture below shows a single 'Media player' PC (labelled 'PC') with a connection via a standard VGA cable to a transmitter. This transmitter has a local VGA output connected to a screen at the PC and also shows VGA over UTP connections to four remote transmitters in this case. As the diagram shows - it is possible with some products to 'chain' the remotes such as the chain of three receivers shown in the picture. The diagram also shows dual VGA outputs on the remotes ( these act like a two port video splitter for the output and make it simple to supply configurations such as back to back screens or two screens in one area (We recommend local VGA connections be limited to 5-10m for satisfactory picture quality
Some of the AV Extension products we offer
Avocent ECMS2000 / ECMS4000 (Computer Desktop over TCP/IP)
The ECMS2000 and 4000 are technically KVM extenders but can also be used in video only mode for single 1:1 extender configurations to extend either single or dual head desktops over 1000/100 Network to a remote location. Where as the Avocent MPX is optimised for moving video these units are better for PC desktop extension. It is not yet possible to extend 1 transmitter to multiple remotes with the ECMS2000/4000. The ECMS2000U is here and the ECMS4000 is here
Fibre Extenders (dvi over fibre)
The range of DVI over Fibre extenders are perfect when security is an issue or when fibre is required for safety reasons. There are direct DVI over Fibre or VGA over Fibre solution suited to areas such as hazardous manufacturing, defence installs, mining sites or areas where high resolution DVI-D must be maintained over a longer distance than UTP Extenders can cope with (300m +). In cases were DVI-D over Fibre is required we recommend you can see our range on the DVI over Fibre page.
Avocent EMS Series
The Avocent EMS Series supports VGA and stereo audio and depending on the configuration can support between 180 and 300m cable runs (lower res at longer distances). The EMS1000 is our recommended unit for VGA and Stereo Audio over UTP
EV Series VGA Extender
The 'EV' Series VGA Extender is our low cost high performance vga distribution system. The EV is not always as strong a performer as the more expensive units above but is quite adequate for most installs and perfectly acceptable performance especially at shorter cable runs or in areas with low interference. The EV series comes in a 1:1 set (EV214) and also 2 port transmitter EV112L and 4 port transmitter EV114L which can be used with either the standard remote EV02R or the remote with cascade port ( EV021X). The data for the unit is on our EV VGA Extender page
CA Series DVI to Cat5 Extenders
The CA Unit is a HDMI over Cat6 / Cat5 / UTP etc extender than allows HDMI and therefore DVI to be sent over a single UTP cable to a remote screen up to 250m away. The system is sold as a transmitter and then the appropriate remote for the required distance is added. Where DDC / HDCP is required for HDMI signal the unit allows this to be sent over a second cat5 cable if needed. This is a great solution for media players with DVI / HDMI output and is recommended as the best DVI over Cat5 / HDMI over Cat5 Extender solution ( unless fibre is an option). More information on the unit can be found here
